Dye and Paint

First attempt at gradient dip dyeing technique. The split, half skirt was meant to look like the tail of a seagull and would flow elegantly behind the dancers as they move. Twelve pairs were made, The two sides would make one tail which was given to each dancer. Particular dancers were meant to have darker tails while other had lighter tails to encourage the visual storytelling of the dance. Loyola University Chicago Dance Concert 2023 “Excavating Hope.”

Craft Projects

This project was to create the Wall for Snout in OTSL’s “Midsummer” 2025. The initial mock up was tied together by my supervisor. I took over to string and zip tie the Wall as well as add the webbing to hold it on the actor. The designer, Emma Kingsbury, decided there should be more variety in the jugs so I redesigned a layout and made the wall over again. We used cotton string to hold the jugs together, however, the type of string stretched alot and deformed the longer it hangs. If I were to do it over again, I would choose something like paracord that stretches a lot less, if at all. Lessons to be learned.

Dandelion Heads made for Opera Theatre of St. Louis “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” 2025. 17 dandelion heads were made for this show (Cobweb, Moth, Peaseblossom, Mustardseed, Puck, and a chorus of 12 children). This was a very long project spanning the entire build season of eight weeks. The pips of the dandelion were made be deconstructing large prop dangelions and gluing each pip between two layers of felt painted to match the fabric of the skull cap. Each skull cap was fit to each actor and then we would glue between 50 and 60 pips on each head. Additionally, with the exception of Puck, each head was strung with fairy lights.
